Scenes from a Marriage
Me: Hey Jeff - did you kill that spider yet?
Jeff: What spider?
Me: The one in that corner.
Jeff, squinting: I don’t see any spider.
Me: I guess it wandered off.
Jeff: But there was the one that crawled on me in bed last night.
Me: Seriously?
Jeff: No, I’m just kidding.
Me: Because you know that can TOTALLY HAPPEN, right? I’ve woken up with spiders on me more than once.
Later, dropping Jeff off at the airport…
Me: Have a good trip!
Jeff, after giving me a goodbye kiss: Love you! Oh, and I wasn’t kidding about the spider.
Me: Erk…
The instant I get home, the phone rings….
Jeff: Um… I think I left my laptop lying on the office floor. I have my laptop case, but no computer. Do you think you could come back to the airport with it?
